After close to 30
years of surfboard manufacture and shaping, I have always looked for new
features, to incorporate into my designs.
Inspiration from
great people such as Al Byrne, Rusty and Al Merrick who use concave
bottoms in a lot of their designs. This has led me to the “Next Step”,
a continuation of the single into double concave.
To achieve this, I
have run the single from 12 inch back from the nose, right out of the
tail of the board, going up to 3/8 inch deep, at the end of the board.
I then flatten the concave up to the 11 to 12 inch mark. By doing this,
I alleviate the pressure made by the concave. This also adds the “step”
in the rail line. That’s why I call it, “The Next Step”.
I then add the
double concave into the single. This gives more flatness inbetween the
surfers feet, giving great speed and smoothness through turns.
If you are looking
for something different or new, try this style of bottom. I’m sure you
will enjoy the new feel.
Nothing ventured,
nothing gained !
Regards
